MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A pedestrian killed Friday afternoon after being hit by a car while attempting to cross U.S. 11 has been identified as a 52-year-old Martinsburg man, police said Monday.

Peter Panagoulias died at City Hospital late Friday after being struck by a car in the 500 block of Williamsport Pike shortly after 4:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Martinsburg Police Department.

An investigation into the accident showed Panagoulias was attempting to cross the road in heavy traffic when he was struck by the side of a northbound vehicle driven by Charles Daniels, 75, also of Martinsburg. The accident was investigated by Patrolman J.R. Butcher.

An earlier report that the victim may have been struck by two cars was incorrect, police said.

No charges will be filed against Daniels, who was driving in the normal flow of traffic, police said.
