Man charged with drug offenses



Maryland State Police charged a man with several drug offenses Monday after pulling him over along Interstate 70 for speeding.

Keith Alphonso Sylvester, 35, of 2305 Treehills Parkway in Stone Mountain, Ga., was charged with possession of marijuana, drug possession, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, drug possession with intent to distribute and a traffic offense, Washington County District Court documents state.

A K-9 scan of the vehicle was positive for drugs. Police said they found a clear bag filled with 29 grams of crack cocaine, documents state.

None of the three people in the vehicle, including Sylvester, claimed the drugs belonged to them, documents state. Sylvester was driving, but he was not a valid driver of the vehicle, which was rented, documents state.

Police who searched Sylvester said they found he had marijuana in his left sock, documents state.

He was being held Monday at the Washington County Detention Center on $95,000 bond.




Man charged with robbery, assault



Hagerstown Police charged a man with robbery and other offenses Feb. 19.

Myron Jay Wood, 38, of 256 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, was charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and theft, Washington County District Court documents state.

Wood was accused of assaulting a man and stealing his money in the unit block of East North Avenue, documents state.

Witnesses said Wood took $400 from the man, documents state.

The victim was taken to Washington County Hospital for injuries he suffered during the assault.

Wood was being held Monday at the Washington County Detention Center on $850,000 bond.
