A pedestrian was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a car in Martinsburg.

The man, who was not identified, was struck by a car on Williamsport Pike about 4:30 p.m., according to a police dispatcher.

The man was described as middle-aged, in his 40s or 50s, by Martinsburg Fire Department Lt. Donald Shirley, who was present on the scene.

Shirley said the man was unconscious but breathing on his own at the accident scene, but died later at City Hospital.

A witness at the scene said he saw two cars parked on the roadside immediately after the accident and believed the man may have been struck by two vehicles going in opposite directions.

"We all saw it seconds after it happened," said Don George, a manager at Domino's Pizza at Williamsport Pike. "He was, like, right in the middle of the road."

An official with Martinsburg City Police declined to release any information, adding the accident remained under investigation.

No further information was available.
