Winds cause damage to barn

February 18, 2006|By Joe Crocetta

High winds ushered into the region by a cold front from the west made quite a racket, but broke no speed limits and did not pack enough power to cause significant damage, according to AccuWeather.Com meteorologist Frank Strait. There were recorded wind speeds of 43 m.p.h. at about 8:45 a.m. at Hagerstown Regional Airport, Strait said, which was strong enough to blow small limbs of trees but not strong enough to cause any major damage. One exception was at a weather site near Smithsburg, where wind speeds were reported to be as high as 62 mph, but Washington County emergency responders said there were no reported incidents as a result of the high winds.
