Halfway Little League registration this week

Just a quick reminder for those who are interested in playing Little League this season: Signups for the Halfway Area Little League are scheduled for the following dates and times:

Today and Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All registration dates will be held at the Plaza Hotel on Underpass Way. Those wanting to participate in Little League must bring the following items at the time of registration: three forms of proof of residency, birth certificate, and $30 registration fee per family. YMCA hosting Black History Month event

The third asnnual Hagers-town YMCA Black History Month Celebration will be held on Monday, Feb. 20, at the Hagerstown YMCA. All are invited to attend this event at no cost. The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. and end at noon. Light refreshments will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. The theme for this year's program is "Our History." The Saint James School Choir, along with several returning participants, including Pastor Mency, Melissa Miller, William Royster and Lelia Swayne will be on hand to celebrate Black History Month. The program will also have several new performers including Gwen Nelson, Zulekha Pitts, Greg Walton and Ron Forsh from Krystal Music.


The keynote speaker for this event will be Joseph Summers.

Soup and sandwich sale to be held

St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, on the corner of High and Franklin streets in Hagerstown, will be hosting a soup and sandwich sale this Saturday. Delicious homemade soups such as beef vegetable, ham and bean will be served up, along with some yummy country ham, city ham and hot dogs for the kids. Hadley Farm Cinnabuns will be available along with some homemade desserts and pies. For more information on this soup and sandwich event, please contact Harry Sprankle at 301-739-7729.

School holiday

Reminder to parents of Washington County students: Schools will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, for Presidents Day. Just a quick note: many of our state offices, post offices and banks will also be closed.
