School hosts international festival

February 16, 2006

On Friday, Jan. 27, the gymnasium and cafeteria at Paramount Elementary School was transformed into an international festival.

The program began with the parade of flags by students. Parents representing the United States, Kenya, Chile, England, France, Greece, Germany, Ghana, India, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Trinidad made presentations. A student representing Sri Lanka provided music. Maria Devore prepared various types of international foods.

A "thousand villages" store displayed items from around the world. Decorated tables represented each country.

It was a night of understanding, learning, multicultural exchange, education, creativity and appreciation for the students, parents and school staff. Through the event, they were able to explore and embrace the world.

The Paramount Elementary School PTA plans to make the festival an annual event.
