Waynesboro Council votes to prohibit left turns onto East Main

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - The Waynesboro Borough Council on Wednesday voted 4-2 to prohibit left turns from Walnut Street onto Pa. 16.

Left turns were previously prohibited from 4 to 9 p.m.

Councilmen Craig Newcomer and Jason Stains opposed the motion. Stains said traffic in the area is light early in the morning and after 9 p.m.

After the council meeting, Allen Porter, chairman of the council's street committee, acknowledged concerns that drivers may use the parking lot of an adjacent business to bypass the intersection altogether.

"A lot of people will drive through Sheetz and make a left turn," he said.

The street committee would review that problem if needed, said Porter, who doesn't feel the burden on the Sheetz lot would pose much of a safety concern.

"It's not so much a safety matter as a frustration," he said.
