Commissioner dispels impact fee rumor

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Jefferson County Commission member Jane Tabb stood up at last Thursday's commission meeting to dispel a rumor in the community that she did not have to pay a school impact fee because she was a commission member.

Tabb said the issue revolved around an old house on her family's property in the Leetown area which was going to be renovated.

Tabb said her family later realized it made better sense to tear down the house and build a new one.

Tabb said she did not have to pay an impact fee because the house had been occupied before.

Hollenshead honored for board service

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Thomas Gentzel and the Tuscarora School Board recognized Guy Hollenshead on Monday for his 28 years of service as a board member.

School board members are "one of the last great examples, I believe, of community service," said Gentzel, executive director of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

Gentzel said statistics indicate a school board member serves an average of six years.
