Library presentationon Niagara Movement

Kim Biggs from Harpers Ferry National Park will be at Washington County Free Library on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. to present a lecture on the Niagara Movement. A mobile timeline will be on display before and after the lecture.

Led by Atlanta University professor W. E. B. DuBois, the organization was founded to focus attention on the plight of African Americans. The Niagara Movement held annual meetings and issued statements focusing on civil rights issues. In existence from 1905-1910, the organization once had 30 branches in various cities throughout the United States. Although the Niagara Movement lasted for only a few years, it paved the way for the creation of the NAACP in 1910. The Niagara Movement was disbanded in 1911.

The library strives to make all programs accessible. Call 301-739-3250 ext. 136 for more information.
