Flintstone man takes Shriner potenate post

CUMBERLAND, Md. - Andrew R. Sweitzer was installed potentate of Ali Ghan Shriners on Jan. 21 after having been elected at the Dec. 7, 2005, temple meeting.

Other members of Ali Ghan Shriners elected to the 2006 divan were R. Francis Shives III of Hancock, chief rabban; Gary L. Miller of Cumberland, assistant rabban; R. Jeffrey Buser of Cumberland, high priest and prophet; Glenn D. Markley of Frederick, Md., oriental guide; James P. Kreiling of Cumberland, treasurer; and C. Fred Widmyer of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., recorder.

Unit heads officers for 2006 are Roger Uphold, president; Ronald Straw, vice president; and Charles "Buck" Taylor, secretary/treasurer.

Formerly of Cumberland, Sweitzer has been a resident of Flintstone, Md., for 39 years. He is married to the former Barbara Hite and they have a son, Mark, who is a noble of the Ali Ghan Shrine Center.

They also have a daughter, Christa, who is married to Jeffrey Conner, also a noble of the Ali Ghan Shrine Center.

Sweitzer is a 43-year member of the former Fort Cumberland Lodge 211 AF& AM, a 43-year member of the Cumberland Consistory of Scottish Rite and a 42-year member of Ali Ghan Shriners.
