Drawbaugh named medical director for perioperative services

February 13, 2006

Dr. Edward Drawbaugh has been named medical director for perioperative services at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown. As medical director, he will work in collaboration with the chief of anesthesia, the chief of surgery, and the administrative director of perioperative services to assist in the oversight of all the components of surgery including the operating room, holding room, preprocedure evaluation and central processing.

"As we looked at the success of adding a medical director for anesthesia and the success of the recent reorganization of perioperative services under Penny Hill, we realized the part we felt was missing was a consistent medical leader for surgery," Deb Addo Samuels, vice president for patient care services at Washington County Hospital, said. "Because the elected role rotates every two years, this is a role that will be stable and consistent to work with surgeons to accomplish their goals."

The role of medical director is not a new role for Drawbaugh. For 10 years, he has served as medical director of Robinwood Surgery Center. Before that, Drawbaugh was involved in an active medical practice.
