The Hagerstown Community College women's rolled a seven on Sunday.

Time time will tell whether it's lucky again for the Hawks.

HCC recieved the seventh seed in this week's Maryland JuCo Conference tournament, which begins Tuesday with the Hawks hosting No. 10-seeded College of Southern Maryland at 4 p.m. in a play-in game.

"We've been the seventh seed in this tournament before and made it all the way to the championship game," HCC coach Marlys Palmer said. "When you get to the tournament, anything can happen."

The 12-team tournament awards the top four seeds byes into the quarterfinals with the bottom eight playing for the right to advance. The fifth through eighth seeds host the games.

The winners advance to the weekend's final eight at Cecil Community College. The winner of HCC-Southern Maryland will face No. 2 Cecil on Friday.

Prince George's, which went undefeated in league play, is the top seed.

Palmer said HCC started the season with high expectations and got to a strong start, but then "flattened out" because of cold shooting and some inexperience. The Hawks, who didn't have one returning player on the team, lost by 39 points to Cecil earlier in the season.

It might all play to HCC's advantage.

"If we get past Tuesday, we might have a psychological edge," Palmer said. "After beating us by 39, Cecil won't be worried about us. The coaches might be, but I don't thing the players will. That could be to our advantage."
