Police probe armed robbery

The Hagerstown Police Department is investigating a report of an armed robbery early Saturday in an alley in the first block of West Franklin Street next to the Hagerstown Post Office.

Shortly before 3 a.m., the victim told police he was walking in the alley when he began talking with two men, who then began kicking and punching him, according to a Hagerstown Police Department press release.

During the alleged assault, the man told police he was knocked to the ground. A handgun was displayed and the two men took the victim's coat and an undetermined amount of cash and fled, according to the release.

The victim was taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment of what police described as nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the release.

One of the men is described as a black male in his mid 20s, and between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt with the word "Echo" on the front in red letters, according to the release.

The second man - also a black male - is described as being in his mid 30s, and 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium build. He had facial hair and was wearing a hooded sweat shirt with no further description, according to the release.
