February 10, 2006|by TAMELA BAKER

ANNAPOLIS - A bill to decrease membership in the Tri-County Council for Western Maryland, an economic development organization for Washington, Allegany and Garrett counties, got a brief hearing Thursday in the House Environmental Matters Committee.

Del. George Edwards, R-Garrett/Allegany, presented the bill, which would remove nonvoting members from the organization. It also changes the appointment of three municipal officials to appointments by county commissioners from the three respective counties. Their terms would coincide with the commissioners' elected terms. Total membership would decrease from 27 to 23.

The Washington, Allegany and Garrett county delegations co-sponsored the bill. There was no opposition at the hearing.
