Detention center gets accreditation

February 08, 2006

The Washington County Detention Center was awarded national accreditation at a conference Jan. 30.

The Commission on Accreditation for Corrections announced Tuesday in a written release that Washington County Sheriff Charles Mades and his staff were complimented for their professional level of operation and their success in completing the accreditation process. The agency is one of more than 1,500 correctional organizations involved in accreditation in the United States, the commission said.

The accreditation program is a professional peer review process.

American Correctional Association standards address service, programs and operations needed for effective correctional management, the commission said. The Washington County Detention Center will maintain a balance between protecting the public and providing an environment that safeguards the life, health and safety of staff and offenders through accreditation, the release said.
