Water and sewer, schools, tax, zoning issues and interaction among Washington County and municipal governments are among topics to be discussed Wednesday at a public forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Washington County.

The forum will be at 7 p.m. at The Village at Robinwood, across from Robinwood Medical Center.

Monda Sagalkin, league president, said the forum came about after speaking with former Hagerstown Councilman N. Linn Hendershot and Washington County Commissioner Doris J. Nipps about the public's understanding of how county government and municipalities work together.

Sagalkin said by phone Monday that she doesn't "really understand how they work together," so she thought a forum would help explain it to residents.

Each panelist will speak, then the audience will be allowed to ask questions.

Sagalkin said she invited mayors of the county's municipalities, and city and county members of the "two plus two committee" to speak at the forum.

Smithsburg Mayor Mildred "Mickey" Myers, Nipps and Hagerstown City Councilman Lewis C. Metzner agreed to be panelists, Sagalkin said.

The two plus two committee consists of Metzner, Hagerstown City Councilman Kristin B. Aleshire, and County Commissioners Nipps and James F. Kercheval. The committee meets to discuss city and county issues.
