Frederick woman dies when hit by car after leavin her vehicle

FREDERICK, Md. - A 49-year-old Frederick woman who left her vehicle after it struck a guardrail was hit by another vehicle and died Sunday on U.S. 340 at St. Marks Road.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Frederick barrack of the Maryland State Police, Mary Howard died after being struck about 5:20 a.m. by a blue 1993 Geo Prizm driven by Sarah Gubler, 19, of Ellicott City, Md. Gubler was traveling east on U.S. 340.

Howard left the black 2006 Honda she was driving and entered the roadway after the vehicle hit the guardrail in the median lane of U.S. 340, police said.

Pedestrian error was cited as the cause of the accident, police said.
