Man dies in collision

A Maugansville man died and another driver was seriously injured in a head-on collision Saturday morning on U.S. 40 west of Hagerstown.

According to Maryland State Police, Bradley Joseph Ebersole, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 1996 Toyota Avalon he was driving collided with a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Kelly Deann Gossard, 36, of Clear Spring.

Ebersole, who was westbound on U.S. 40 east of Earth Care Road, crossed the center line for unknown reasons, police said.

Gossard was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter to Washington County Hospital, according to a press release. She later was transferred to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., police said. According to a nursing supervisor, Gossard was in serious condition Saturday night.

A juvenile passenger in Gossard's vehicle was taken by ambulance to Washington County Hospital for treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

U.S. 40 was shut down for about two hours for investigation of the 9:21 a.m. collision.

No charges will be filed, police said.
