The music has changed, but the disco balls are still lighting up rinks at Starland Roller Rink Inc. and Family Skating Center in Washington County.

And the kids and families are still having a good time.

The kids tend to be younger, around 9 to 12 years old, says Barbara Donaldson, manager and owner of Starland on Park Road. Starland will celebrate its 60th year this October.

Youths still hang out in the middle of the rink sometimes, says Patty Rishel, co-owner of Family Skating Center on Virginia Avenue in Halfway.

They even do dances such as the "Cha-Cha Slide," "Electric Slide" and "Macarena," Rishel says.
