Lions Club speakers

Edie Wallace from The Sharpsburg Historical Society and Lion Delancy Catlett will speak at Sharpsburg Lions Club meetings during February.

Regularly scheduled activities planned by the Sharpsburg Lions in February are as follows:

  • First regular meeting (Feb. 2, 7 p.m.): Edie Wallace to speak,

  • Funkstown Lions Club Bonanza (Feb. 4),

  • Cabinet meeting, Grand Venice (Feb. 5),

  • Reeder's Pie Call (Feb. 7, 2 p.m.),

  • Fahrney-Keedy Sing-a-Long (Feb. 9, 7 p.m.),

  • Second regular meeting (Feb. 16, 7 p.m.): Lion Delancy Catlett to speak,

Regular meetings are held at the Lions' Den at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Main Street in Sharpsburg.

Ruritan basket bingo

The Keedysville Ruritan Club is sponsoring a basket bingo Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Little Antietam Community Center in Keedysville. The cost is $15 and features Valentines baskets and retired baskets filled with goodies. Raffles, food, specials and a King Tut Jar will be available. Proceeds will used for scholarships for students in the area to attend college. Reserved seats will be held until 5:30 p.m.; advance sale seats are held until 6 p.m., as seating is limited. Team Trivia Bingo

The Herald-Mail Co. will host the second annual Team Trivia Bingo this Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Washington County Technical High School. Game show legends Bob Fleenor and Dave Elliott will host this competition from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including lunch. Relay For Life Kickoff

Join the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Kickoff Event Sunday, Feb. 5, at the Grand Venice Hotel Ballroom on the Dual Highway in Hagerstown. This event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., and will feature light refreshments, door prizes, and great music! Information will be shared about this year's Relay for Life event, and team registration packets will be available for those who wish to serve as team captains.

The Relay for Life at South Hagerstown High School Stadium, the only public Relay for Life event in Washington County, will be held June 16-17. Please RSVP to the ACS office at 301-733-8272 by Jan. 31 if you're planning to attend.

Pancake breakfast

Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville will be having a all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday, Feb. 11, from 7 to 11 a.m. The cost is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 6-10, and free for children age 5 and under. The breakfast menu consists of pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, sausage gravy, juice, coffee and tea. Proceeds will go into the church building fund. Indoor yard, bake sale

St. James Brethren Church will hold an indoor yard sale, breakfast, lunch and bake sale Saturday, Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, at 17718 Lappans Road between Lappans Crossroads and the Downsville Pike.

Body & Soul

Body & Soul dance-style cardio aerobics and strength training to contemporary Christian music continues at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. with instructor Lisa Ridenour (301-432-7337). Body & Soul is also held at St. James Brethren Church Tuesdays and Fridays from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. with instructor Michelle Bumgardner (301-695-4614).

Fit Kids 4 Christ

Fit Kids 4 Christ is an exercise and recreation program especially designed for elementary-aged children. The program offers a unique opportunity for children to stay active and social over the cold winter months. Physical activities include Yoga for Kids, basketball, relays, dance, "parachute" and other "active" games. A healthy snack is provided and the class ends with prayer. Classes are free and open to the public the second Thursday of each month. Join exercise instructor Lisa Ridenour at Benevola United Methodist Church Spiritual Life Center from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Benevola United Methodist Church is three miles north of Boonsboro on Alternate U.S. 40, the Funkstown Pike.

Hospice speaker

Dawn Johns will speak on the Hospice program at the Keedysville Senior Center on Monday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m.
