February 01, 2006|by TARA REILLY

Washington County residents will have the opportunity to dial 2-1-1 to get the 411 on a range of community, health and human services.

The County Commissioners on Tuesday voted unanimously to contract with the Mental Health Association of Frederick County, Md., to provide the 2-1-1 telephone service in Washington County.

The $63,397 contract will be paid for with state dollars, according to information included with the county's agenda.

Some of the information that might be available by calling the local 2-1-1 service includes where to find food banks, shelters, rent assistance, mental-health resources and financial assistance, according to the information.

"I think it offers a nice service to the county residents," Commissioner James F. Kercheval said.
