County jobless rate down in December

Washington County's unemployment rate dropped to 3.9 percent in December from 4.2 percent in November, according to estimates the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation released last week.

Over the same period, the state's unemployment rate dropped similarly, from 4.1 percent to 3.6 percent.

The estimates show that Frederick County's rate of 2.5 percent for December is tied with Howard County for the lowest in the state.

At 8.6 percent, Worcester County had the highest rate.

Washington County's rate in December 2004 was 4.1 percent, according to the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

All figures are not seasonally adjusted.
