Three Cinderellas and a circus mark 2006 lineup of family-friendly entertainment

A variety show with a fire-eater and illusionists, a team that performs with inflatable costumes, acrobatic gymnasts and a variety of musicals are among the arts events appropriate for the entire family in the Tri-State area this year.

Here are some of the performances and arts events expected this year:

March 26

"Rumplestiltskin" musical at Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre & Children's Theatre in Frederick, Md.

Feb. 10

Dance Asia at The Apollo Civic Theatre in Martinsburg, W.Va. The Chinese dance program is narrated to put each number in context with Chinese culture. An ArtsPower National Touring Theatre production. Daytime shows. For tickets, call 1-888-278-7769.

Feb. 12

David Parker: "I'm Glad You're Here" at Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick, Md. Parker's show combines sign language, live music, movement and visual comedy.

Feb. 16

Kinder Konzert at Hagers-town Community College's Kepler Theater. The Maryland Symphony Orchestra's brass quintet will perform two morning shows. Free. Suitable for listeners who are in preschool.

Feb. 17

2006 Family Fun 'n Frolics Variety Show's Wintertime Wizards 'n Wonders at The Maryland Theatre. Acts include a fire-eater, a team generating magic and illusions, a comedy dog act, a balloonologist, jugglers and contortionists. Benefits Hagerstown Firefighters Association. Feb. 19

"Peter Pan" will be presented by The National Marionette Theater in HCC's Kepler Theater. Daytime show. Free.

March 3

The University of Maryland Gymkana Troupe will perform high-energy gymnastics, from traditional gymnastics to circus and acrobatic acts, at HCC's Athletic, Recreation and Community Center (ARCC). Free.

March 4

The story of "Peter and the Wolf" will be brought to life with life-size puppets and music performed by the MSO at its Family Concert at The Maryland Theatre. Features Das Puppenspiel Puppets. The concert includes a musical piece about Molly Pitcher.

March 9

"The Wizard of Oz," an American Theater Arts for Youth Inc. musical production at The Apollo Civic Theatre. Daytime shows. For tickets, call 1-800-523-4540.

March 10

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The 1937 Disney animated cartoon classic is shown at the Weinberg Center.

March 16

Kinder Konzert at HCC's Kepler Theater. The MSO's string quartet will perform two morning shows. Free. Suitable for listeners who are in preschool.

March 22

"Cinderella," an American Theater Arts for Youth Inc. musical production at The Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg, Pa. Daytime show. For tickets, call 1-800-523-4540.

March 24

"The Lady and the Tramp" at the Weinberg Center. A 1955 Disney romantic cartoon about a pampered female cocker spaniel and a mutt from the wrong side of town.

March 26

Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Company at the Weinberg Center. The show, with inflatable inventions, includes comedy, juggling and dance.

April 1 to July 29

"Cinderella" musical at Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre & Children's Theatre.

April 8

Creative Dance Competition at The Maryland Theatre.

April 13

Free Marine Band concert at The Maryland Theatre.

April 8

HCC's show choir, The Superlatives, will perform in HCC's Kepler Theater. Free.

April 14 and 15

"Alice in Wonderland" dance performance is presented by Other Voices Inc. at the Weinberg Center.

April 17 and 18

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favourites," including "Little Cloud" and "The Mixed-Up Chameleon," at The Capitol Theatre. The nationally touring black-light performance with puppets is staged by Mermaid Theatre. Daytime show on April 18.

April 20

Kinder Konzert at HCC's Kepler Theater. The MSO's percussion trio will perform two morning shows. Free. Suitable for listeners who are in preschool.

Beginning April 23

Suns Story Time at Municipal Stadium. Thirty minutes prior to each Hagerstown Suns Sunday home game, Suns players will read stories on the field. Must have game ticket to be admitted for story time. Presented by the Suns and Washington County Arts Council.

April 29 to May 28

Public school art exhibition at Washington County Museum of Fine Arts in Hagerstown's City Park. For more information, call 301-739-5727.

May 11

Kinder Konzert at Smithsburg High School's auditorium in Smithsburg. The Smithsburg High School Band will perform two morning shows. Free. Suitable for listeners who are in preschool.

May 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21

"Seussical The Musical" at The Apollo Civic Theatre. The musical brings together famous characters and stories such as "The Cat in the Hat" and Horton.

May 13

Mercersburg Academy Dance Performance at The Maryland Theatre.
