AFSCME reps attend conference

January 26, 2006

Representatives of Local 354 of AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees) recently attended a two-day political workshop/conference at the Maritime Institute in Linthicum Heights, Md., hosted by PEOPLE (Public Employees Organized to Promote Legislative Equality).

Attending were Local 354 President Freida Forrest, Vice President Sam Tracy and local members Jenny Morgan and Linda Powell.

While there, they met with Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., D-Prince George's; gubernatorial candidate Doug Duncan, Montgomery County executive; and Del. Anthony Brown, D-Prince George's, who is Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley's running mate in this year's Democratic gubernatorial primary.

The group discussed health care, pay raises and better pensions, among other things, for state, county and municipal employees.

Forrest, Tracy, Morgan and Powell are staff members at the Potomac Center in Hagerstown, a residential facility for the developmentally disabled.
