United Way given $59,759 by workers

Washington County employees donated $59,759 to the United Way of Washington County and Community Health Charities in 2005.

The county's goal for the charities was $50,000.

Angela Helfrick, of Washington County Community Partnership for Children and Families, said 389 employees donated $49,657 to the United Way and $10,102 to Community Health Charities.

Helfrick said the local United Way's goal for the campaign was $1.7 million. It raised $1,649,569.

Budgets for county projects reviewed

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday reviewed the preliminary capital budgets for several county projects.

Some of the projects reviewed included drainage, bridge, and water and sewer work.

The entire Capital Improvement Program proposed for fiscal year 2007 is not yet complete. Fiscal year 2007 begins July 1.

Wolford honored for his service

The Washington County Commissioners recognized Highway Director Ted Wolford at Tuesday's meeting for his longtime service.

Wolford, who is retiring at the end of February, has been highway director for 30 years. He's worked for the county for 37 years.


Wolford thanked the commissioners and county employees.
