WILLIAMSPORT - A man with a sweatshirt hood pulled up on his head robbed Byers River City Market on Monday, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

The man did not show a weapon or say he had one, so it wasn't considered an armed robbery, Investigator Greg Alton said.

The man walked into the Conococheague Street market at about 6:25 p.m. - just as a customer was walking out, Alton said.

That left no one in the store except two clerks.

Alton said the man demanded money. He was given an undisclosed amount of money and walked away, Alton said.

The robber was described as a man with a dark complexion, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build. He had a dark mustache.

The man was wearing a black jacket and a gray sweatshirt with a hood that was pulled over his head

Alton said the man might have been walking around town earlier in the day.

The sheriff's department has asked anyone who might have seen the man to call 301-791-3020.
