Discovery Station board of directors is elected

The Discovery Station At Hagerstown Inc. has announced the results of the recent elections for the 2006 officers of its Board of Directors.

B. Marie Byers was elected president of the directors. She also serves as the museum's interim director. Grayson Oldfather was elected vice president, the secretary is Stephanie Stone and the treasurer is Dr. John Davidson.

Additional Board of Directors members are John Barr, Patricia Beard, Art Crumbacker, Arnold Hammann, Leslie Hobbs, Dr. Ron Keyser, William McGovern, Michael Shaefer, Sukey Rankin, Cheryl Steiner, Rick Thomas, Kevin Tucker, Robert VanLaningham, Linda Vestal and Pat Wishard.

Officers are elected to a one-year term. Board members have a term of three years.

With no paid staff, the Discovery Station conducts its activities, programs, and operations solely through the dedication of its volunteers.

Since opening in May, the museum has more than 300 members. The benefits of an annual membership to the Discovery Station at Hagerstown include free admission for one year to the museum, 10 percent discount in the Treasure Gift Shoppe, 10 percent discount on birthday parties by Whimsical Wishes (for ages 2 to 8) in the Discovery Station, free admission for one year to more than 280 designated Association of Science-Technology Centers through its Travel Passport Program in the United States and abroad, and newsletters about the Discovery Station's special events and activities.


The museum has three levels of membership available.

A one-year membership for an individual living in Washington County is $50. An out-of-county individual membership is $60 per year.

Another level of membership is the Family membership. The annual membership for a parent living in Washington County is $50 ($60 outside Washington County). For additional family members, including a parent or child younger than 18, membership is $10 each. All of the family members must live in the same household.

The third level is the Grandparents membership. The cost is $50 for a Washington County resident ($60 outside the county) for the first member. For each additional grandparent and/or grandchild younger than 18, the membership is $10.

An adult must accompany children younger than 14 into the museum.

The Discovery Station creates hands-on learning experiences designed to stimulate all people, especially children. The programs and interactive exhibits on science, technology and history are available to all residents in the Tri-State area.
