McAteer to speak at Men's Club dinner

January 18, 2006

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Attorney Davitt McAteer will be the featured speaker at the Shepherdstown Men's Club's Jan. 25 dinner meeting.

McAteer will discuss the efforts of the Morgan's Grove Historic Preservation Association to preserve the Derr's Field property, which is off W.Va. 480 north of Shepherdstown's Morgan's Grove Park.

A subdivision of 69 single-family homes is planned for the site, according to a Men's Club news release. The Association would prefer to convert the land into a public park that would provide expanded recreational opportunities for the Shepherdstown community and showcase the history of the immediate area, the release states.

The Men's Club meeting will be in the War Memorial Building on German Street. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., following a 30-minutes cocktail period. McAteer will speak at about 8 p.m.

Anyone in the community is welcome to attend.

Admission to the dinner is $10 for Club members and nonmembers alike.

All those wishing to attend should call the Men's Club at 304-876-3323 by Jan. 23 to make a reservation.

The Shepherdstown Men's Club, a nonprofit service organization, was founded in 1945. It owns the War Memorial Building and Morgan's Grove Park, and holds semi-monthly dinner meetings.

Membership is open to all men and women, 18 years or older, who reside in the general Shepherdstown area.
