Commissioners OK grant submission

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday authorized the submission of a grant that pays for emergency housing and support for the homeless.

The Community Action Council (CAC) asked the County Commissioners to approve the grant's submission to the Department of Human Resource's Office of Transitional Services.

The money will go to the CAC, CASA, The Salvation Army and St. John's Shelter.

Fiber-optic cable link approved

A fiber-optic link from an area near the Washington County Sheriff's Department and Hopewell Road was approved Tuesday by the Washington County Commissioners.

The County Commissioners approved a change order and money transfer totaling $62,707 for the project, which will follow the Newgate Industrial Park interceptor sewer. The link is a portion of the planned fiber-optic extension from the area of the Sheriff's Department to Elliott Parkway.

Joe Kroboth, public works deputy director, told the commissioners establishing the link concurrently with the interceptor would save money.
