Aaron J. Messer of Hagerstown graduated in December from Villa Julie College, Baltimore, with a Bachelor of Science degree in film, video and theatre.

The son of Larry and Theresa Messer is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School.




Chris Taylor of Middletown, Md., a student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, has received the Wells Fargo Scholarship for the 2005-06 academic year.




Laura Spessard of Hagerstown and Christa Buckheit and Robert Buckheit of Myersville, Md., were named to the Dean's List at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa., for the fall 2005 semester.




The following area students were named to the Dean's List at Catawba College, Salisbury, N.C., for the fall 2005 semester:

Lauren Ebersole, Stephani Garrett and Lindsay Layman, all of Hagerstown; and Robyn Smith of Chambersburg, Pa.




Former Hagerstown resident Kayla Ricedorf of Mechanicsburg, Pa., has signed a national letter of intent to attend North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C. She has received a 50 percent scholarship to swim for the Wolfpack.

Ricedorf won a bronze medal in the individual medley in the PIAA state championships last year. She was also 14th in the backstroke and was a member of the 200-meter freestyle relay team that finished 12th.

She is the daughter of Wendy and Bernie Ricedorf and is the granddaughter of Dick and Lorraine Troxell of Williamsport and Millie Ricedorf of Garner, N.C., formerly of Hagerstown.




Tiara Rashae Burnett of Hagerstown, a student at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, has accepted membership in the Golden Key International Honour Society and was honored at a recent induction ceremony on campus.

Golden Key has more than 1.5 million members in 334 chapters in the United States, Australia, Canada, Malaysia and South Africa and New Zealand. The nonprofit organization provides recognition to college juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class as well as leadership development opportunities, community service, career networking and scholarships. Membership is by invitation only, to students in all fields of study.

Burnett, a general agriculture/pre-veterinary major at UMES, is a Dean's List student, a member of the Delta Tau Alpha honor society and the Animal and Poultry Science Club. She is a volunteer at the Wicomico County (Md.) Humane Society and an agriculture mentor. Her goal is to become a veterinarian and work for the prevention of animal cruelty.

She is the daughter of Stephanie Hensley Bowins and the granddaughter of Wanda Evan Vernon, both of Hagerstown.




The following Hagerstown students were named to the Dean's List at Bridgewater College, Bridgewater, Va., for the fall 2005 semester:

Lindsay Grove, a freshman majoring in psychology and mathematics; Tracy Hinkle, a freshman majoring in sociology; Jessica Powers, a sophomore; and Tabitha Marie Pryor, a junior majoring in history and political science.




The following area students were named to the Dean's List at Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va., for the fall 2005 term:

Mason Chandler Herman, a sophomore, son of Kim E. Keasey of Hagerstown and Dr. Dale S. Herman of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and Adam Tyler Hockensmith, a sophomore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ricky A. Hockensmith of Hagerstown.




The following area students graduated from Allegany College of Maryland, Cumberland, Md., at fall commencement exercises:

Jami Funk, Clear Spring, medical laboratory technology;

Holly Haynes, Hancock, nursing;

Jared Mellott, McConnellsburg, Pa., computer technology (network option);

Ashley Travis, Paw Paw, W.Va., occupational therapy assistant;

Supanee Meyers, Sharpsburg, occupational therapy assistant.




The following are among area students at Shenandoah University, Winchester, Va., who were named to the Dean's List for the fall 2005 semester:

Lindsey Banister of Hagerstown, a chemistry major in the College of Arts & Sciences. She is a 2004 graduate of Clear Spring High School.

Joshua Bond of Hagerstown, a mass communications major in the College of Arts & Sciences. The son of Ronnie and Sandy Bond, he is a 2004 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.

Jenna Warrenfeltz of Hagerstown, a university studies major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
