Annual Chambersburg service to honor King's legacy

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Service for Chambersburg and Franklin County, Pa., will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Ave.

The 27th annual service will feature the Harambee United Church of Christ Prophetic Arts Ministry Group from Harrisburg, Pa., under the direction of Monika Ross. The group uses drama, song, dance and pageantry to spread its message.

The service also will include music by the Antrim Brethren in Christ Church Choir.

Also, the service will include the presentation of the winners of the annual essay contest sponsored by the Chambersburg Improvement Association. Students are asked to write their ideas about King's life, dreams and legacy.

The service, which is open to the public, will be followed by a reception in the church social hall.

The event is co-sponsored by the Chambersburg Area United Churches, the Sons of Isreal Synagogue, the Chambersburg Area Ministerial Alliance, the Evangelical Fellowship of Cumberland Valley and the Chambersburg Ministerium.
