LA PLATA, Md. - Sam Cain scored a team-high 19 points, including four 3-pointers, for HCC in a Maryland JuCo Conference loss to Southern Maryland.
Christi Bartlett and Lindsey Plotner each had 10 rebounds and Marissa Elliot and Requita Davis each had six assists for the Hawks (11-5, 2-3).

Shippensburg 5K Run/Walk
The 22nd Memorial 5K Run/Walk will be held Feb. 4 at 10 a.m., beginning and ending at Shippensburg University's Heiges Field House. The course will follow campus and township roads with one minor hill, and awards will be given for overall, masters and age groups. Greencastle athletics news
All students going out for a spring sport at Greencastle-Antrim High School must receive a physical exam between Jan. 23 and March 6 in order to begin practice on March 6.
Free physicals will be given on Jan. 26, Feb. 2, Feb. 16 and Feb. 23 from 7:45-10:30 a.m. each day.
Junior wrestling tourney set for Feb. 5
The Wildcat Junior Wrestling Mid-Winter Classic will be held Feb. 5 at Saint James School.
Entry fee is $15 per wrestler and participants may enter two weight classes if they aren't in the same division. Registration deadline is Feb. 2. Weigh-ins will be held Feb. 4 from 6-8 p.m. and Feb. 5 from 7-8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Saint James School. The second annual Best of Softball School will be held on four consecutive Saturdays from Feb. 18 through March 11 at the New Franklin Ruritan Community Center.
Girls in the 13-18 age group will meet from 2-5:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 and Feb. 25. Cost is $90.
Girls in the 8-12 age group will meet from 2-4:30 p.m. on March 4 and March 11.
