Electrical contract awarded to Ellsworth

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday awarded a $199,500 contract to Ellsworth Electric Co. of Hagerstown for two generators and electrical service upgrades at four Highway Department sites.

The commissioners awarded the contract by a 3-2 vote. County Commissioners Vice President William J. Wivell and Commissioner John C. Munson voted against the award.

Wivell said the $199,500 bid was higher than what was budgeted. The budgeted amount was $157,000.

He made a motion to purchase one generator and the electrical work at the four locations from Ellsworth Electric for $126,500, but his motion failed by a 3-2 vote.

Wivell and Munson voted in favor of the less-costly option, but Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook, Commissioner Doris J. Nipps and Commissioner James F. Kercheval voted against it.

Snook, Nipps and Kercheval then voted in favor of the higher contract amount of $199,500.

Three appointed to advisory council

Three people were appointed Tuesday by the Washington County Commissioners to serve on the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council.

Donna Palmer, Delores Harmon and Jeffrey Long are the new members.
