Pa. growth control expert to speak

January 10, 2006

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ronald Bailey, executive director of the Campaign to Renew Pennsylvania, will be the featured speaker at the Franklin County Cooperative Extension Annual Meeting on Friday, Jan. 27, at Kauffman Community Center.

His presentation will be on "Balancing Agriculture and Community Growth" in Franklin County.

"Franklin County's rural, small-town atmosphere, combined with its proximity to major metropolitan areas, makes it an ideal location for growth and development," the Extension office said in a press release. "It is important that this growth be planned for and properly managed."

Bailey was executive director of the Lancaster County Planning Commission from 1988 to 2004. It was the first in the state to establish urban growth areas, the Extension office said.

Tickets are $11 for adults and $6 for ages 6 to 12. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. A chicken and ham dinner begins at 7 p.m.
