Pay raise requested for county police officers

Sheriff Ronnie McIntire told the Morgan County commissioners Friday the department has lost one deputy and a total of four deputies will be leaving "to be hired out of the county," he said.

"We had 21 indictments this time, and we have to start thinking before we lose everybody," he said.

McIntire said the yearly salary in other counties is about $39,000, compared to about $24,000 in Morgan County.

He said he knew the county would not be able to pay that much, "but we have to do something before we lose them."

He said Morgan County will become a training ground.

Glen Stotler, the commission president, said the commissioners will take a look at the budget.

"Bear with us a little while, and we'll take a look at it," said Commissioner Tommy Swaim.
