She was preceded in death by one son, Michael R. Trussell; one sister, Jean Baldwin; and three brothers, Wade Skinner, Edgar Skinner and Bobby Skinner.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town. The Rev. Melanie McCarley will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

Friends will be received Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Robert James Smith, 58, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 3, 1947, in Baltimore, he was the son of Verniece Gray Smith of Elkridge, Md.

He worked as a carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Earline Smith; two daughters, Earline C. Patrick of Marriottsville, Md., and Denise Montelius of Relay, Md.; three sons, Robert E. Smith of Red Lion, Pa., Ronnie Smith of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Russell Smith of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Betty Mitchell and Carolyn McKinney of Elkridge, Md.; four brothers, Marvin Gray of Pasadena, Md., Donald Gray of Dundalk, Md., Rodger Gray of Elkridge, and Melvin Gray Jr. of Florida; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Stephen Gray.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Pastor Samuel Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Barbara L. Newcomb, 61, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at City Hospital.

Born Aug. 30, 1944, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edmund Lee and Iris Schill Hoffman.

Her husband, Larry Newcomb, preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, David Frazier Sr.

She is survived by one daughter, Cathy Frazier of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two sons, David Frazier II of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Paul Frazier of Martinsburg; one sister, Carol Kilmer of Martinsburg; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Hoffman.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Dora Henderson, 84

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Dora Henderson, 84, of Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, at Northampton Nursing Home in Frederick, Md.

Born Oct. 22, 1921, in Kells, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John Nelson and Margaret Smith Nelson.

Her husband, Thomas Henderson, preceded her in death.

She served in the WRENS during World War II.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, W.Va.

She is survived by one daughter, June Leonard of Harpers Ferry; one sister, Susan Hayes of London; one brother, Larry Nelson of London; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry. Burial will be in the Church of St. Columbkille, Kells.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Alyssa Jade Coates, infant daughter of Edward Allen Coates and Winnie Mae McDermott of Falling Waters, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandmother, Dorothy McDermott of Martinsburg, W.Va.; paternal grandmother, Pat Shaffer of Falling Waters; and aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Donald J. McDermott; and paternal grandfather, Horace A. Coates.

Services will be Friday at noon at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

WILLIAMSPORT - Janette "Jane" Martin Burhans, 93, of 16505 Virginia Ave., passed away Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, 2006, at Homewood at Crumland Farms in Frederick, Md.

She was born Sept. 15, 1912, in Lakewood, Ohio, to George A. Jr. and Ethel Wardwell Martin, both originally coming from Maine.
