You Said it

"Since when does a person have to serve in the military to be able to go out and fly the American flag or display the stars and stripes? Someone asked me why I do it, and I said that I've been doing it for years to show my patriotic spirit. He said that I wasn't what he thought I was. Just because I haven't served in the military doesn't mean that I shouldn't be allowed to display the stars and stripes. If people like him don't like it, that's too bad. More and more, we're losing our freedom in this country."

"Since the County Commissioners gave money to North High for the stadium, how much money did they give South High to expand their auditorium?"

"Where in the Constitution does it say 'separation of church and state'? It does not say it. I must have read it 50 times, and I can't find it."

"Ronald Brown, I miss you. It has been two Christmases without you. Love, Nan."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to wish the twins Rose Marie and Rosalie a happy 50th birthday."

- Hagerstown

"Thank you to Jackie and Brian Lester for making our Christmas the best yet. Thank you, Mike and kids."

"I am more than sick and tired of people attacking the motorists who hit their dogs and cats on the road. I refuse to believe that anyone runs over an animal on purpose, as they are often accused. If anyone is to blame, it is the person who allowed the pet to be in the road. It is not the fault of the motorist. I'm sure that it ruins their day, too, when an animal runs in front of them and they can't avoid hitting it. They owe you no apologies."

"The caller who said that President Bush does not visit military installations or hospitals very often evidently doesn't look at the news. Last year, Bush had Thanksgiving dinner with the troops in Iraq. His wife and parents didn't even know he had made the trip until after it was over, because it was very risky for him. When he visited the Gulf Coast after Katrina, people said he was using too much of the government's gasoline supply. This poor guy can't win for losing. People ought to be glad that we have an economy that's doing very well. There are a lot of jobs out there. It could be a whole lot worse. Count your blessings."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"To the so-called human from Leitersburg who stated that he would shoot a dog that was on his property. Dogs are property, not wildlife. If you shoot a dog and it is witnessed, you will be prosecuted. Research the law, since you do not know what you're talking about. Do not blame the dog for the owner's irresponsibility."

- Leitersburg

"I'm reading the article in the Monday, Dec. 26, paper entitled 'Student suspensions drop in county's public schools.' There is a reason for that, and it's more than what they say here. Teachers have been told not to send kids to the office. Also, schools get graded on how many suspensions they have. They make this look like a rosy picture, like kids are all wonderful angels and it's all warm and fuzzy, but that's not the truth."

"Mail Call is one of the most fantastic things that's ever happened. In the Friday, Dec. 23, Mail Call, someone complains about Tim Rowland (which they constantly do). If you don't like Tim Rowland's comments, don't read his column. There are thousands of us who think he's wonderful. You are in the minority. Don't read his column if you don't like it. It's your choice."

"My two brothers and myself all served in the military. My oldest brother was a volunteer in World War II, and my other brother and myself were drafted during the Korean War. My father was very proud to see us serve. My question relates to President Bush and his commitment to the war in Iraq. He states that this war is the right thing to do, and he justifies the fatalaties and injuries as an honorable sacrifice. Why is it that President Bush's daughters choose to not enlist in a branch of the service? Could it be that President Bush and Mrs. Bush do not see this war as worthy of their children to serve?

"I love animals. Seems to me dogs have no business being on a road if they are properly looked after by their owners. I would be a little hesitant to confront the owner if I just hit and killed their dog. Keep them off the roads and they shall die of old age."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"It's really irritating that I can't go to a restaurant without people wanting to know my business and making negative comments. They ask me where I work, and it's starting to get old. People don't really care; they just put on a show."

- Greencastle, Pa.
