Chelsea Hessler of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., was named the 2005 Pre-Teen West Virginia Senior Division Titleholder over the Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3-5 in Charleston, W.Va.

Chelsea, the 13 year-old daughter of Craig and Pam Hessler, will be returning to the Pre-Teen America National Competition held July 2-7, 2006, in Birmingham, Ala.

At the West Virginia competition she competed against 72 young ladies from all over the state and was judged in seven areas: academic achievement; volunteer service to community; school honors and activities; development of personal skills and abilities; general knowledgeability test; communicative ability (interview) and on-stage expressionism.

Pre-Teen America state programs are by-invitation only scholarship and recognition events involving young ladies 7 to 12 years of age.

Chelsea also completed in the optional speech and talent competitions and won first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively. In 2002, Chelsea was selected the Pre-Teen West Virginia Junior Division Titleholder.

Chelsea is a seventh-grader at Warm Springs Middle School. During the past year she was awarded first place at the West Virginia Social Studies Fair for the second consecutive year, was awarded a Gold Ribbon for the fourth consecutive year at the West Virginia State 4-H Days Visual Presentation/Public Speaking Competition. She was selected as the sixth-grade winner for the Ye Towne of Bath DAR Essay Contest.

She is a member of the Mighty Iroquois 4-H Club, MCPPL Softball League, and Michaels Chapel United Methodist Church. At Warm Springs Middle School, she is a member of the Lady Wolves varsity basketball team, has competed on the cross country and track teams, and was elected the seventh-grade secretary to the Student Council.

Chelsea was sponsored at the state and national competitions by the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483 and the American Legion Post 60, Women's Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and the Junior Order.
