CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Investigators continued to search Monday for a man who was involved in an apparent robbery at a local club early Christmas Day in which one man - possibly two - was shot, a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

A man and woman left the Golden Horseshoe Club along W.Va. 9 west just outside Ranson, W.Va., and were about to get into their car when they were approached by two assailants, said Detective Sgt. Shawn Bonifant.

Deputies believe the assailants might have been a man and a woman, Bonifant said.

An altercation occurred on both sides of the car and it is hard to determine whether the male victim was badly beaten or shot, Bonifant said.

Another man who was either trying to help the couple or get in his car to leave was shot in the neck, said Bonifant, whose department was notified of the incident shortly after 1 a.m.

The assailants fled the club's parking lot in the couple's 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse, which was later found abandoned near Bardane Industrial Park in Bardane, W.Va., Bonifant said.

Police later found a female who had a wallet, money and ring that were stolen in the incident, Bonifant said. The woman was charged with transferring and receiving stolen property, Bonifant said.

Police on Monday afternoon were continuing to look for a man described as about 6 feet tall with a slender build and light skin, although it is unclear whether he was black or white, Bonifant said.

The man was last seen wearing a dark jacket or sweatshirt with a hood and dark pants.

Names of the victims were not available Monday. The victims were taken to Winchester (Va.) Medical Center and it appears their injuries were not life-threatening, Bonifant said.

Anyone with information about the incident may call the sheriff's department at 304-728-3205.
