Services at area houses of worship

St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown, the Rev. Scott Bellows will speak at the 10 a.m. communion service this Sunday which will include congregational Christmas carols.

Christian education will resume on Jan. 8 at 9 a.m.

Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va., the Christmas Day service gets under way at 10 a.m. The theme is Come Crash the Party.

State Line (Pa.) United Methodist Church, 287 East Ave., on Christmas Day, there will be a 9 a.m. birthday party for Jesus. At 10:15 a.m., the sermon topic is Don't Turn Off The Light.

Marlowe (W.Va.) Assembly of God, the Christmas Day service with special music and a message from the word of God will begin at 10:30 a.m.


St. Catherine the Great Martyr Eastern Orthodox Church of Hagerstown, Father Dennis Buck will be serving Divine Liturgy this Sunday celebrating the Nativity of Christ at 10 a.m.

Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, the Rev. Carol Hallman will speak at the 10:30 a.m. Christmas Day service on the topic, The Manger and the Cross.

There will be no Sunday school.

Valley Assembly of God Christian Life Center, 17544 York Road, Hagerstown, the topic for the Christmas Day 10 a.m. service is The Wise Men.

Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., Christmas Day worship at 9:45 a.m. will feature the chancel drama, Sharing Christmas Joy. A birthday reception will follow.

Unity, Shepherdstown, W.Va., on Christmas Day at 11 a.m., the Celtic harp of Sea Raven will be heard.

Unity meets in Shepherdstown's historic train station between German and High streets.

Zion United Church of Christ, the Rev. Robert Royal will conduct the Christmas Day service at 10:30 a.m. There will be scripture readings and Christmas hymns.

There is no Sunday school.

Calvary Grace Brethren Church, a service of music and message will be held Christmas Day at 11 a.m. There will be no evening service.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lappans Road, a service of Holy Eucharist and carols will be held Christmas Day at 10 a.m.

Pikeside United Methodist Church, Paynes Ford Road and U.S. 11, Martinsburg, W.Va., the Rev. Thomas Young Jr. will bring the message, The Greatest Visit Ever Made, at the 8:30 and 10:35 a.m. services on Christmas Day.

Sunday School for all ages is at 9:15 a.m.

There will be no Sunday evening or weekday activities.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, the Rev. Mark Mooney will be speaking at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday on the topic, Right Place at the Right Time. There will be gifts for the children and a talk by the pastor and his puppet friend, Joseph.

Sunday School classes for children, youth and adults are at 10:45 a.m. A five-week study on Being a United Methodist will conclude.

Church of the Holy Trinity, Halfway, the Rev. Ted Haas will be conducting the 10:45 a.m. Christmas Day service on the topic, The 20 Centuries of Christmas. Children's church meets during the service. Fellowship and light refreshments follow the service.

Sunday school for all ages is at 9:30 a.m.

St. Mark's Lutheran Church, there will be an informal 10 a.m. worship service on Christmas Day featuring carols, readings and communion.

Tri-State Fellowship, 13153 Cearfoss Pike, Hagerstown, the Christmas Day service of quiet worship and celebration of Christ's birth will be at 11 a.m.

Church of Christ in the Great Valley, Minister C.R. Strunk will be speaking on Christmas Day at 10 a.m. on the Only Gift That Lasts Forever.

The congregation meets at the Woodmen of the World lodge on Reichard Road in Fairplay.

Shiloh United Methodist Church, Pastor Wayne Frum will speak on The Gift We Give at the 9:15 a.m. service on Christmas Day.

There will be no Sunday school.

St. Peter's (Beard's) Lutheran Church, Old Forge Road, the Rev. David Baker will be speaking at the 9:15 a.m. service this Christmas Day. The topic is Be Born in Us.

There will be Sunday school.

Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Pastor Kenneth Hawes will speak on the topic, And the Word Became Flesh, at the 9:30 a.m. service on Christmas Day.

There will be no Sunday school.

Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, the pastors will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service this Christmas Day on the topic, Night of Memories.

Sunday school for adults begins at 9:30 a.m. There will be no children's Sunday school.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg, the Rev. Richard Hembrock will Christmas Day services at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday.

Bible study will not be held.

Mount Lena United Methodist Church, Boonsboro, the Rev. Ronald Kurtz will be speaking at the 9:15 a.m. Christmas Day service on the topic, Blending the Past and Present.

Sunday school begins at 10:30 a.m.

Emmanuel Baptist Temple, 16221 National Pike, Hagerstown, the topic at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Christmas Day services is Behold Thy King Cometh. There will be a candlelight communion service at 6 p.m.

Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday Bible study and children's programs are at 7:30 p.m.
