A Monday morning accident on W.Va. 9 near Baxter Road which claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy was the third fatal pedestrian accident involving a car in Berkeley County since Friday.

The first death occurred Friday night when a man told police that a woman dressed in black was crouched in the middle of U.S. 11 north of Martinsburg, W.Va., near Koonstown Road.

The motorist said the circumstances made it difficult for him to see the woman, who was described as 43-year-old Crystal Dawn Knode.

Knode died Friday at City Hospital at about 10 p.m., according to a press release from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

The driver was not cited in the accident, the release said.

Knode lived on Bonneville Drive in the Falling Waters, W.Va., area, Berkeley County Coroner David Brining said.

The second fatal pedestrian accident occurred early Saturday when a Martinsburg man walking along W.Va. 9 near the intersection with Exit 16 of Interstate 81 was struck and killed by a car, West Virginia State Police said.

The man was identified as Thomas Bish, 65, said Sgt. David Boober.

Aimee Dugger, 24, was driving the Mitsubishi Eclipse that was involved in the accident, which occurred about 1:30 a.m., Boober said.

Dugger was taken to City Hospital and later released.

A passenger in the Eclipse was not injured, police said.
