ANNAPOLIS - Demand for certified organic products is rising and, in Maryland, the amount of certified organic farmland has doubled since 1997, the state Department of Agriculture said.
The agency is seeking new members for its Organic Certification Advisory Committee.
Created in 1992, the panel has up to 12 members representing a cross-section of the organic industry. Members advise MDA on the operation, regulation and promotion of the certification program and the industry, and ways to help market products.
The agency is seeking someone to fill the rest of the term, expiring July 1, 2007, of an organic agriculture expert. Also sought is someone to fill the rest of the term, expiring July 1, 2006, of a consumer representative.
