Students participate in CHOICES seminar

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - CHOICES, An interactive decision-making seminar, recently was presented to all ninth-grade students at Jefferson High School by local community and business leaders.

The CHOICES program is a two-day seminar that gives students a chance to plan for the future and to recognize the importance of personal and academic decisions. Students consider the effects of choices they make, and study time and money management techniques.

Students were challenged to face their future career options based on the level of education they achieve.

Presenters were:

  • Shannon Kennedy, Cinnamon Hule, Kim Kinley and Danielle Ziegler, Eastern Management Development Center, Shepherstown, W.Va.

  • Matt Knott, River Riders, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

  • Christa Shifflett, FOCUS, Charles Town

  • Peggy Talley, Community and Technical College of Shepherd, Martinsburg, W.Va.

  • Locke Wysong, West Virignia House of Delegates, Kearneysville

  • Patricia Sewell, Brown's Funeral Home, Martinsburg

  • Giles Snyder, Public Broadcasting Agency, Washington D.C.

  • Judy Matlick and Shana Dick, WVU Extension Agents, Kearneysville

  • Patricia Welch, American Public University, Charles Town

The presenters spent two days in social studies classrooms interacting with the students.
