Band seeks new members

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Cum-berland Valley School of Music community band is accepting new members.

Rehearsals are scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 8, 15 and 22, at Chambersburg Area Senior High band room. David Wenerd leads the band.

The CVSM community band will perform in a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Chambersburg Area Senior High School auditorium. The free program will include classical, musical theater, jazz, marches and traditional concert band music.

Tickets go on sale

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Tickets are on sale for the West Virginia Serenade, An All American Salute to Sen. Robert C. Byrd. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Apollo Civic Theatre, 128 E. Martin St.


The event will feature bands and performing artists, including classical, rock, blues, barbershop, country, folk, Celtic, gospel, bluegrass, Broadway and comedy.

An after-party will follow the event at Market House Grill. A $5 donation is requested for the after-party.

Hancock Arts Council hosts photo show

HANCOCK - Hancock Arts Council will sponsor a photo contest and exhibition with the theme "Our Town." The photos will be displayed at War Memorial Library, where the photos also will be collected.

Winning photos will be published in The Hancock News. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners and the viewers' choice selection.

Subject matter should be appropriate for the theme "Our Town," such as persons, places or things that demonstrate the character, institutions, traditions and lifestyle of the Hancock community. Photos take since January 2000 will be accepted.

Entree forms will be available at War Memorial Library. Photos must be submitted by Feb. 28 with the photo's title, photographer's name, address and phone number affixed to the back.

Winning entrants will be required to frame and mat their photos. The 10 photos selected will be exhibited April 15 to July 15 at War Memorial Library.

The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers. A maximum of two photos per entrant can be submitted for free. A $10 entry fee will be charged for each additional photo.

Photos must be at least 8 by 10 inches, black and white or color, from digital or film cameras. Submissions do not need to be framed.
