Vasant Datta, M.D.

The India International Friendship Society will present Vasant Datta, M.D., of Hagerstown, the Bharat Gaurav (Pride of India) Award on Jan. 9, 2006, in Hyderabad, India.

He will receive the award and a certificate of excellence during the society's international conference, Global Participation in India's Economic Development.

Datta plans to travel to India to accept the award from the society, whilch has the stated goals of humanitarian objectives, promotion of universal brotherhood and development of India.

Datta is in family practice with an office on 340 Mill St. He also sees patients at Avalon Manor, Clearview, Eden Pines, Julia Manor, Loyalton, Revenwood, Reeders and Broadmore nursing homes.


LongmeadowAnimal Hospital

Dr. Jennifer Johnson recently joined the staff of Longmeadow Animal Hospital in Hagerstown as the associate veterinarian.

Johnson practiced in the Cleveland, Ohio, area for the past two years, gaining experience with exotics as well as dogs and cats.

A 1990 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, Johnson received her bachelor's degree in veterinary medical technology from Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pa. In June 2003, she received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Ross University's School of Veterinary Medicine, completing a year of clinical education at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.

Bruce Levin will join the Hagerstown team of Mercantile Mortgage LLC as a loan originator specializing in residential lending.

Levin, a Hagerstown native, earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia. Prior to his employment with Mercantile, he and his family owned and operated Alan's Shoes for many years.

Wadsworth most recently served as regional representative for the West Virginia Development Office. Prior to that she spent 13 years in the banking and financial services area.

She is a certified financial planner and possesses securities licenses as well as West Virginia insurance licenses for life, annuities and accident and sickness.

Villa Maria

Sally Hellane has joined the staff of Villa Maria of Washington County as the program supervisor and clinical coordinator.

The program, formerly known as Catholic Charities of Washington County, is at 229 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. Its goal is to provide compassionate, affordable, skilled mental health counseling and psychiatric services to individuals and families in need, regardless of race or religion, according to a prepared release.

It is one of 10 outpatient mental health clinics of the Villa Maria Continuum, a Child and Family Services Division of Catholic Charities of Maryland.

Hellane has a degree in social work from the University of Maryland Baltimore campus. She is a licensed certified social worker, a registered play therapist and is a diplomat in clinical social work.
