Art reception slated for Sunday

The Contemporary Art Gallery at 4 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown will hold a reception Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

An exhibit by watercolor artist Clyde Roberts is the highlight. There also will be fine art, painted silk scarves and jewelry by Emerging Women.

Live music and refreshments will be part of the event.

Roberts graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art, Western Reserve University, and received his master's degree from Columbia University. He was a high school art teacher and retired as art supervisor for the Washington County school system. He has taught part time at Hagerstown Community College, Shepherd University and Penn State.

Roberts is a life member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society. He belongs to the Valley Art Association, the Chambersburg (Pa.) Art Association and the Studio Club of Waynesboro, Pa.

Thirty of his works are in the permanent collection of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Martinsburg, W.Va., and 20 more are in the collection of Washington County Hospital.

Emerging Women offer original art, painted silk scarves and handmade jewelry. Matisse Designs will exhibit jewelry of fine silver and semiprecious stones. Mitzi Ash of Berlin, Md., has hand-painted silk scarves, pillows, wall hangings and framed art. Sue Hamilton of Reston, Va., Pat Donahoe and Joan Keith, both of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Suzanne Keith Loechi of Illinois offer unique watercolor and oil paintings.
