You Said It

"I wish people would be less concerned about deer hunters in this area and more concerned with trophy hunters. There are people in this county who have stuffed giraffes, zebras and mountain lions in their homes. You can't tell me that they eat that meat. It is a complete waste of life to be hunting for trophies. At least the deer hunters eat their kill."

"It takes a lowlife to steal computers from the kids' computer labs at a school. What kind of person would do this? Get a job if you need to steal. Quit stealing from our children. They need their education."

"I think it's ridiculous that my elementary school son has to wear his winter coat in the classroom at school because it's that cold. If I had the heat down that low in my home that my kids had to wear winter coats at home, Child Protective Services would be stepping in, wanting to take my kids from me. Is the BOE going to pay for my son's doctor bills from sitting around in the cold so much?"

"This is to the lady who commented about church membership. Yes, you can lose membership in our church. I found out when a cousin died and the parents couldn't buy a burial plot because they hadn't been to church for more than a year. The older generation made that church. Their reward is that they are no longer members. I don't see anyone lining up to take them to church. Sorry, it's just a building."

"This is in reference to the comment that 'Our grandchildren will be saying that liberals lied, democracy died and terrorism thrives.' Our grandchildren will be too poor from debt to be able to worry about that."

- Hagerstown

"This is to the person who wanted incentives for those who recycle. We already have incentives: Our grandchildren. By recycling, we'll be leaving them with fewer landfills full of nonbiodegradable items."

"I'd like to respond to the comment about the Suns fireworks issue that if the Suns would win more games, they could pack the stadium. That's so misinformed, since the Suns were the first-half champions and played in the playoffs in the second half last year. I call that a pretty winning team."

"Since moving to the Washington County area several years ago, I've had several questions that no one seems to be able to answer for me. I understand that the county administrator job is not an elected position. I wondered how this came about. Also, we have a director of public works, but we also have directors for roads, sewer and water. It just seems like the political situation here is a bit overloaded."

"This is for the person who was ragging on Jeff Gordon. Maybe he wasn't at the banquet because he doesn't feel that he has to be there. He knows how good he is."

"I would like to know the secret to how the Snoopy characters stay so young for so long. Whatever they're eating and drinking, I want some. I'd like to know how old Snoopy is in dog years. Anybody who doesn't get a chuckle out of this has no sense of humor."

- Hagerstown

"I'm replying to the comments about the Suns fireworks. They were wrong on several counts. First, they said they believe that if the Suns won some games, they could pack the stadium. The Suns won lots of games last year; in fact, they were the Northern Division champions. Secondly, they said that fireworks aren't going to pack the stadiums. Statistics show that 30 percent of the attendance last year was on fireworks nights. Third, the person said they agreed with Penny Nigh that if they had a winning team, they would bring people in. Once again, they had a winning team. Finally, minor league baseball is not about winning or losing, it's about entertainment, which Kurt Landes does a fine job at."

"After watching the city council debate on TV regarding the Hagerstown Suns, I know that I will not be voting for Nigh, Cromer or Parson-McBean."

"People ought to just be thankful that they can get out of bed in the morning. When your feet touch the floor, just thank God that you're alive instead of complaining about the price of gas, heating, etc. You're healthy and you can get out of that bed in the morning, so thank God that you're alive."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to congratulate the junior Hubs varsity team of North High because they beat E. Russell Hicks Middle School on Sunday night, and I think they did a fabulous job. Go, North High."
