Smithsburg EMS lists November calls

SMITHSBURG - During November, the personnel of Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services responded to 85 calls for service, bringing the 2005 total to 1,045 responses as of Nov. 30 - up from 876 calls at that time last year.

Of the 85 calls for November, 16 were to Frederick County, Md., and five were to Franklin County, Pa., Capt. James Ulrich said.

Fourteen calls were in the Smithsburg town limits while another five calls were in the Hagerstown area, six in the Cascade/Pen Mar area and seven in the Mount Aetna area.

Eleven calls were to the Leitersburg area.

The most common call type was for patients with patients having trouble breathing, accounting for 12 calls. A total of 52 patients were transported to area hospitals during the month.

The department also assisted on five fire-related calls during November.

The department responded to several injured subjects as a result of hunting accidents.
