December 07, 2005|by CANDICE BOSELY

INWOOD, W.Va. - A woman lost her home and her cat Tuesday evening when a fire engulfed a mobile home off Poor House Road, according to a firefighter.

Capt. Brent Orsini, with South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Department, said the cause of the fire had not been determined.

Flames were shooting from the home's front door and windows when firefighters with South Berkeley, Hedgesville Volunteer Fire Department and Back Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Department arrived, Orsini said.

"We did get a quick knock-down on the fire," he said, noting that its interior was gutted.

Firefighters found the woman's cat inside, but it did not survive, Orsini said.

Red Cross officials were contacted to assist the woman.

The fire was reported about 6:15 p.m. The home is on Cindy Court, near the intersection of Poor House Road and Apple Harvest Drive.

Firefighters with the Clear Brook Fire Department in Virginia also assisted, filling in for South Berkeley volunteers while their firetrucks were at the fire.
