Scouting

Junior Girl Scout Troop 256 of the Shawnee Council recently accomplished two things at once. Members earned their sewing badge with a sewing bee and made neck coolers for the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, who are now now stationed in Iraq. Last year, the girls supported the Marine battalion while they were stationed in Afghanistan.

The girls learned how to machine and hand sew in a six-hour day at Grace United Methodist Church in September.

The girls also made chemotherapy pillows for cancer patients.

Troop 256 is based in Hagerstown. The Girl Scouts of Shawnee Council Inc. serves more than 6,000 girls and adults in 15 counties in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and is a member of the United Way.
